Before you replace it, let us look at it
Most of the carpet we are called to replace does not need replacing. It needs the grit taken out of it. Soil that has worked down to the base of the fibre is what makes a carpet look dead, and it is also what is destroying it, because sand in the pile acts like sandpaper every time somebody crosses the room.
We invest in the equipment and the training to save carpet other firms would tell you to pull up. That is not a slogan, it is the reason we are still here after twenty-plus years in a county this size.
Eight steps, and the rinse at the end
Our process runs to eight steps, from the first pre-spray through to a final vacuum. The step people actually notice is the acid rinse near the end, because it is what leaves the fibre soft instead of stiff.
Here is why that matters. Cleaning agents are alkaline. If they are not neutralised they stay in the carpet, and detergent left in a carpet is sticky — it grabs soil out of the air and off shoes, so the carpet re-soils faster than it did before it was cleaned. That is the reason a cheap cleaning can look fine for a fortnight and worse than the original a month later.
Inspection and walkthrough, pre-vacuum, moving what can be moved, pre-spray, agitation to break the soil loose, hot water extraction, the acid rinse, then grooming and a final pass. The rinse is the step that separates a cleaning that lasts from one that looks good for a fortnight.
Heavily soiled and heavily used
This is the stated specialty and it is the work we would rather have. Traffic lanes between doorways, stairs, the strip in front of the sofa, rentals between tenants, houses with several dogs, houses where the carpet has simply been left longer than anyone meant to leave it.
Stairs deserve their own mention. They take more wear per square foot than any other surface in a house and there is no flat run to work along, so each tread is worked on its own. It is slow, and it is the part of a job that most obviously separates people who are being thorough from people who are not.

Three different kinds of dirty
They look alike from the doorway and they do not respond to the same treatment. Working out which one you have is most of the job.
Traffic lanes
The darker paths between doorways, where the pile is walked flat and packed with grit. Caught early this lifts out completely; left for years the grit cuts the fibre and that part is permanent.
Filtration soil
Grey lines along baseboards and under doors — airborne soot and dust drawn through the carpet edge as air moves. Not a spill, and it needs treating differently.
Old detergent
Residue left by a cleaning that was never rinsed. It stays sticky and pulls soil straight back in, which is why some carpets get worse a month after being cleaned.
Oil and spot-remover film
Body oil, cooking oil and store-bought spotters all leave something that attracts dry soil. It is why treated spots come back darker than the carpet around them.
What cleaning will not fix
Worth saying plainly, because a cleaner who promises everything is telling you something about the conversation you will have afterwards.
Fibre that grit has already cut will come back clean, not new — the twist is gone and with it the even way the pile reflects light. Bleach damage has no colour left to clean. Where the backing has separated and the carpet ripples, cleaning does not reattach it. And urine that has gone through to the pad is often a pad problem rather than a carpet one.

Common questions
How long does it take?
A typical three-bedroom house is a half day. A single room is usually an hour or two including setting up and packing down.
How often should I have carpet cleaned?
Manufacturers generally want professional cleaning every twelve months, and most stain-resist warranties require it. Traffic areas need it sooner. The honest signal is that once you can see a traffic lane, grit has been cutting the fibre for some time, and that part of the wear does not come back.
How do I prepare?
Very little. Vacuum if you have time, though it is not essential. Clear the floor of small items, toys and cables, lift anything breakable off low shelves, and when we walk through together point out the marks that matter most to you.
How long before we can walk on it?
Most carpet is dry enough to walk on in a few hours and fully dry within about a day. A damp winter week is slower. Airflow matters more than heat, so leaving the furnace on and cracking a couple of windows does more than turning the thermostat up.
Do you move furniture?
We move what can reasonably be moved: sofas, chairs, coffee tables. We ask you to clear the small things beforehand — lamps, electronics, cables, anything breakable on a low shelf. Very heavy or fragile pieces, and beds with storage underneath, we clean around rather than risk.
What if a spot comes back?
Then so do we, at no charge, as long as it is the size of a quarter or bigger. If you are still not satisfied after that, we refund your money. That has been the deal since 2003 and it is the whole reason to hire a small local firm over a franchise.
